Development of poultry meat and egg production in the Leningrad region: successes and prospects

An important factor in the development of poultry meat production was the introduction of second-order reproducers, which made it possible to cover 25% of the need for imported eggs. This significantly reduced the region’s dependence on external supplies and ensured stable development of the industry. Today, the Leningrad region produces about 300 thousand tons of poultry meat per year, which completely meets the needs of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region.

One of the leading poultry farms in the region is Severnaya, which produces 800 tons of meat daily. However, in order to meet all the growing needs, new poultry farms are actively developing in the Leningrad region . For example, Roskar is currently building 11 new buildings to house 200 thousand birds, which will lead to an increase in egg production by 680 million eggs in the next two years. Also, the Sinyavinskaya poultry farm plans to build a large building to accommodate 580 thousand birds, which will provide an additional increase in production.

According to Oleg Malashchenko, plans for the development of egg production in the region are ambitious. By 2027, production is expected to increase to at least 4.5 billion eggs, representing an increase of 1 billion eggs. These plans are realistic and, judging by current successes, have every chance of being achieved.

The development of poultry meat and egg production in the Leningrad region is an important factor for ensuring food security in the region and reducing dependence on imports. The successes that the region has achieved in this area indicate that the right strategy and investment in development can lead to a significant increase in production and satisfaction of the needs of the population.
