Development of a methodology for assessing greenhouse gas emissions in the Russian agro-industrial complex

Currently, RUSSIA lacks a unified methodology for quantifying these emissions in the agricultural sector, which creates difficulties for producers who are not required to report their emissions. Sinelnikov noted that without such a methodology, it is impossible to include agricultural enterprises in the list of organizations subject to emissions regulations.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development's initiative, companies emitting over 50,000 tons of CO2 per year must submit reports. It's worth noting that agriculture ranks third in emissions, after energy and industry. However, the Ministry of Agriculture and industry associations oppose additional requirements for businesses, as they could negatively impact the sector's economy.

Developing a methodology tailored to the specifics of agriculture will not only improve the environmental situation but also provide farmers with new opportunities to obtain subsidies for environmentally friendly technologies, potentially increasing their international competitiveness. However, implementing this project requires the joint efforts of government agencies, the scientific community, and farmers themselves.
