A socially significant sub-sector of livestock farming in the Stavropol Territory, sheep farming, continues to receive support measures included in the regional state program “Agricultural Development”.
This year, 34.9 million rubles were allocated to reimburse part of the costs of producing lamb in live weight, which is twice as much as last year.
As a result, lamb production in the region over the first 9 months of this year increased by 11% and amounted to 19.4 thousand tons.
“The development of sheep farming with state support is a fundamental goal. This year, 22 agricultural producers received a full subsidy for the production of lamb, and 3.4 thousand tons of MEAT were subsidized,” noted Deputy Minister of Agriculture Viktor Fetisov.
The total number of sheep in the Stavropol Territory is more than 1.2 million heads. The bulk of the livestock is kept on peasant farms and personal subsidiary plots.
The Stavropol Territory has a strong potential for the EXPORT of lamb, which can cover the entire market of the Stavropol region, as well as a number of subjects of the North Caucasus and Southern Federal Districts and countries of the Near Abroad. Thanks to the implementation of Russia's largest complex for the industrial production of lamb by the Damate group of companies in the region, production volumes will increase significantly in the near future.
