Production of barbecue meat is increasing ahead of the season.

Shashlik MEAT production continues to grow with the start of the high season. Retail chains offer a wide selection of raw and cooked shashlik meat. This year, after Lent, the price of shashlik increased by 10-20% compared to last year, depending on the type of meat. A potential increase in pork exports to CHINA is also driving up prices, as demand for pork in China exceeds supply.

However, experts assure that increased meat production in RUSSIA will allow them to meet domestic demand and EXPORT pork without harming the market. According to calculations by the Russian Food Union, the average price of chicken shashlik increased by 20%, pork by 13%, and turkey by 10.3% in 2024.

This year, there is increased demand for shashlik meat compared to last year .The early start of the shashlik season is explained by the beginning of the spring holidays in late April and warmer weather. Igor Karavaev, Chairman of the Presidium of the Association of Retail Companies (AKORT), notes that chicken and pork shashlik are in highest demand. Demand for onions, mayonnaise , kefir , and vinegar—popular marinade ingredients—has also increased.

Retail chains are actively offering raw and cooked meat for shashlik, and retailers traditionally reduce prices on high-demand products during the holidays. This attracts more customers, and their interest leads to increased store traffic.

However, meat processing plants are expressing concerns about a pork shortage this year. Therefore, it is important to find a balance between meeting domestic demand and exports to avoid a potential shortage on the Russian market.
