Meat and milk producers accused of approaching a global catastrophe

The Changing Markets Foundation ranked the MEAT and dairy producers most indifferent to the problem of methane emissions and global warming.

The fund recalled that the agricultural sector is one of the main sources of methane emissions. Cow and goat manure account for 32 percent of total methane emissions. The worst meat and dairy corporations were named the French companies Groupe Bigard and Lactalis and the Japanese Itoham. Nestle, Danone and Fonterra are top of the list, but even they are not doing enough, ignoring the approach of a global catastrophe.

The study found that all of the top 20 meat and dairy producers received low scores for their actions to reduce methane emissions. None of the companies has a specific plan to achieve the goal. More than half of the companies said they were funding measures to reduce methane emissions, but did not disclose how much they spent. The authors of the report accused companies of inaction and called for accelerating the adoption of ways to combat global warming through technical measures and the reduction of animal husbandry.

At the end of September, the international Energy Transition Commission reported that a sharp reduction in emissions of the greenhouse gas methane would significantly slow global warming. They urged oil and gas companies to reduce methane leaks at drilling platforms and production sites.
