Farm trials of the African swine fever (ASF) vaccine, developed and manufactured by AVAC Vietnam, have been conducted since July last year on the company's farms, as well as on farms owned by CP Vietnam Livestock.

Animal HEALTH Department DIRECTOR Mr. Nguyen Van Long noted that a more thorough assessment is needed and that both companies need to increase the frequency of sampling. However, according to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien, given the progress of implementation and the results of field vaccination, the commercial availability and use of vaccines is expected to be announced in February.

As of the end of December 2022, AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company has reportedly vaccinated 1,800 pigs against ASF in 13 farms. The sampling results showed that 94.4% met the immunity requirements.

The results obtained from CP Vietnam Livestock showed that the pigs had no side effects after vaccination, all pigs were in a normal condition, and 14 days after vaccination, the virus was not detected. The control herd had no antibodies, while the vaccinated herd had 40% antibodies at 14 days and 90% at 28 days.
