Causes of sneezing in chickens: when should you worry about the health of birds?

Not every sneeze in chickens is a sign of illness, but it is important to be aware of symptoms that indicate serious problems. Chickens may sneeze occasionally due to irritants such as dust and smoke entering their respiratory tract. If you observe frequent sneezing or mass manifestation of this symptom, it is worth paying attention to other signs of illness.

In most cases, sneezing is caused by high levels of dust or ammonia in the coop. Regular cleaning and maintaining good ventilation will help prevent problems. Ensuring the HEALTH of your chickens also includes a balanced diet and constant access to clean water, which helps strengthen the immune system.

Monitor your hens' condition: if you notice nasal discharge, weight loss, or a change in comb color, this may be a warning sign. Deterioration in condition, such as wheezing, shortness of breath, or cyanosis, requires immediate veterinary attention.

If the absence of the above symptoms is accompanied by rare sneezing, it is enough to tidy up the chicken coop. Otherwise, any deterioration in the health of your chickens should alert you and require a specialist consultation.
