On Wednesday, March 1, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Government Roman Vasilevsky, who oversees agriculture, announced his intention to test MEAT processing equipment in reindeer farms in the north of Kamchatka, directly in the tundra, in order to subsequently evaluate its effectiveness.

Previously, in the villages where the indigenous peoples of Kamchatka live, municipal governments bought venison for social institutions, but in recent years this area has received insufficient attention, Vasilevsky noted. Now the government has stepped up work on the procurement program. Currently, there are nine reindeer breeding enterprises in the Kamchatka Territory, but they do not process venison, but mainly sell frozen raw. There is a small meat processing workshop that produces stewed meat and delicacies in the village of Ust-Khairyuzovo, Tigilsky district, but its capacity is clearly insufficient to preserve and develop reindeer herding, a traditional occupation of the indigenous peoples of the northern part of the peninsula.

Reindeer herders are supported by federal and regional programs. They are reimbursed for the purchase of snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles and radios. Now the government of the Kamchatka Territory is faced with the task of introducing new technologies for processing venison in the field.
