Germany and Denmark have reported reductions in their pig herds, equivalent to more than half of the total reduction in the EU. The reduction in Germany is equivalent to 33% of the total EU reduction (-2.4m heads compared to 2021; -10%), while the reduction in Denmark is equivalent to 22% of the total EU reduction (-1.6m heads, -12%). In France, the reduction was 758,000 heads. Spain, which previously experienced continuous growth since 2013, also experienced a decline, albeit on a smaller scale (-379,000 heads). Bulgaria and Malta (-26%) showed the largest relative declines.
