The number of pigs began to be restored in the farms of the regional center and the Chita region after the outbreak of African swine fever that occurred in Chita in March 2020. Recall that the restrictions were lifted only a month ago.

In just a few weeks after the announcement of quarantine for this infectious disease in the exclusion zone, which has a radius of 20 kilometers from the alleged epicenter of the outbreak, all pigs were disposed of without exception. The measure is unpopular, but the rules require it. African plague is a disease with almost 100% lethality and high contagiousness. During the year, residents of Chita and the Chita region were forbidden to breed pigs, the restriction was lifted only in May of this year.

Valentina Sadbayeva, veterinarian at the Chita Animal Disease Control Station: “Restrictive measures have been lifted, but one point remains that it is impossible to EXPORT MEAT products, pigs from the territory of the city of Chita and the Chita region. In the future, the issue with ROSSELKHOZNADZOR will be resolved.”

Veterinarians are waiting for the complete lifting of restrictions in the coming weeks. Noting that outbreaks of African plague for the Trans-Baikal Territory are rather exceptions. Over the past decade, they have occurred only twice and both times were local in nature.
