The number of breeding animals in the Yaroslavl region has increased

Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, government bodies , including the republics of Tatarstan and Udmurtia, Kirov and Tver regions, heads of agricultural enterprises, and scientific organizations took part in the work.

Minister of Agriculture and Consumer Market of the Yaroslavl Region Dmitry Fomin spoke about state support measures for livestock breeding in the region.

“In 2023, the volume of subsidies to support livestock breeding amounted to 156.6 million rubles. Next year it is planned to increase it to 163 million rubles,” noted Dmitry Fomin. “Including 69.6 million rubles will be allocated for the maintenance of breeding dairy cows, and 35 million rubles for the purchase of breeding animals.”

Thus, there were 11% more dairy cows in 2023 than in 2022 – 16.8 thousand heads. The largest herd size is the Holstein breed - 8577 heads, slightly less than the Yaroslavl breed - 7326 heads. The number of breeding ewes increased by 8.6% to 2,298 heads, and the number of breeding laying hens increased by 15% to 9,306 heads.

Deputy Director of the Department of Livestock and Breeding of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Galina Safina noted that 13 areas of livestock farming are currently being developed: sheep breeding, pig breeding, meat and dairy cattle breeding, poultry farming, horse breeding, fish farming, beekeeping, reindeer husbandry and others. Genetic resources in dairy cattle breeding amount to 23 breeds in 69 regions. There are 84 dairy and 89 genetic laboratories, 10 breeding centers and 61 regional information and selection centers in the country.

In the Yaroslavl region there is an organization for artificial insemination of farm animals, a laboratory for immunogenetic examination, molecular genetic examination, a regional information and selection center, a selection center for the Yaroslavl breed of cattle , a selection center for the Romanov breed of sheep.
