Retailers are trying to contain food inflation by selling locally-produced basic necessities at a negative markup. The publication notes that now the Brazilian chicken MEAT, which has sharply fallen in price, is 1.5 times cheaper than similar offers from poultry farms in the Leningrad Region .

In April, the Severnaya Poultry Farm announced a five-fold indexation, which covered 14 commodity items. Most of all, by 17.4%, the whole carcass of a broiler has risen in price.

In Lenta, the ABN correspondent was told that they had already encountered an increase in purchase prices and a shortage of chicken in warehouses. Meanwhile, under loyalty programs in St. Petersburg supermarkets and hypermarkets, chicken meat is sold at prices below wholesale prices. In particular, a chicken carcass in Lenta is offered at 164.99 rubles per kilogram, at Perekrestok - at 149.99 rubles per kilogram, while in the online store of the Severnaya poultry farm, chicken is sold at 136 rubles per kilogram.

According to the Federal State Statistics Service, poultry prices are rising not only in St. Petersburg: on April 17–24, the average wholesale price of a broiler carcass in RUSSIA increased by 7.7%, to 140.8 rubles per kilogram, although this did not affect retail price tags.
