Veterinary rules for marking and recording animals have been published

The document contains labeling requirements for each type of animal that must be registered.

For example, cattle ( cattle ) are subject to individual marking no later than 30 calendar days after birth. And if beef cattle are kept on pasture, then the animals should be marked no later than 91 calendar days after birth. To mark cattle, the new veterinary rules allow the use of tags, collars, electronic tags, electronic collars, implantable microchips, and intragastric implantable microchips (boluses). The document indicates how to correctly place markings. Thus, tags should be attached in the middle of the inside of the animal's ear.

The veterinary regulations specify the properties that animal marking means must have. In particular, they must be resistant to temperature changes from –40 ℃ to +45 ℃. For the means used to mark fish, temperature differences are defined in the range from –3 ℃ to +36 ℃. Marking means must be safe for animal health and ensure electronic and visual readability throughout the entire period of keeping the animal.

The rules specify the conditions under which animals can be re-marked.

Let us remind you that for marking and recording animals, Rosselkhoznadzor created the Horriot platform - this is a component of the VetIS system. Currently, data on farm animals kept at various livestock enterprises in the country and in private farms is entered into Horriot. Until what time it is necessary to register large and small livestock, pigs, poultry, horses and commercial fish was discussed in detail at the All-Russian meeting in Kazan dedicated to digitalization in veterinary medicine.

The new veterinary regulations will come into force on March 1, 2024 , when marking and recording of farm animals in Russia will become mandatory by law. An exception was made for paragraph 4 of the new veterinary rules, which concerns recording the unique number of the animal marking device on a permanent storage device. This clause will come into effect on March 1, 2025.
