New sample preparation methods for whole-genome sequencing of animal viruses have been developed at the Federal State Budgetary Institution "ARRIAH"

In the first quarter of 2024 , “Methodological recommendations for the purification, concentration and isolation of the genomes of the ASF virus and pathogens of the genus Capripoxvirus for full-genome sequencing” were developed . To implement these recommendations, new protocols for sample preparation of genomic DNA samples using Illumina/MGI technologies were improved and created.

Thanks to new approaches, it has become possible to obtain highly pure material for genome-wide analysis. This, in turn, makes it possible to obtain more reliable data on the genetic relatedness of field isolates of pathogens of particularly dangerous animal infections.

The developed methodological recommendations are already actively used by specialists of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "ARRIAH" and can be introduced into the practice of research laboratories if qualified personnel and appropriate high-tech equipment are available.

New approaches to sample preparation offer promise for more accurate and efficient analysis of animal viral genomes, which will facilitate effective infection control measures and protect animal HEALTH.
