Norway reports an outbreak of avian influenza among domestic flocks

An outbreak of a highly pathogenic strain of avian influenza H5N1 was detected in a private farm in the north of the country with a population of 19 birds. These data were provided to OIE by the Norwegian authorities.

Millions of birds were destroyed, supply chains were disrupted, and prices for poultry products increased significantly . In addition, the risks of virus mutation and the emergence of strains that may pose a threat to humans have increased manifold.
