Chilled product prices fell 2% in April to an average of BRL 6.59/kg. In Toledo (PR), frozen MEAT prices fell by 9.7%, from BRL 9.49/kg in March to BRL 8.57/kg in April. For chilled chicken, quotes fell sharply by 11.2%, averaging BRL 8.62 per kg in April.
Chicken meat sales were weak in April. Thus, the agents decided to reduce demand in order to provide higher liquidity and prevent stockpiling. One factor that may have increased pressure on chicken prices was the product's loss of competitiveness with pork, which devalued more sharply than chicken between March and April.
In April, Brazil exported 408.3 thousand tons of chicken meat (in volume terms), down 15.7% from March, according to Secex data compiled by Cepea. Despite this result, the average daily shipment in April was the highest in the series that began in 1997, and amounted to 22.7 thousand tons. This highlights that April's EXPORT figures were not higher only due to fewer working days compared to March.
