Egg shortage on Sakhalin

Sakhalin residents began to notice a shortage of chicken eggs on the shelves of supermarkets in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The only place where a Sakhalin resident could buy eggs, he found only yesterday - the Yuzhny micromarket, but the dense queue prevented the man from even entering the store. Several more South Sakhalin residents have repeatedly reported to the editor in recent days about the regular absence of eggs in various retail outlets.

The cyclone made its own adjustments. During the blizzard, production did not stop, but products were delivered to stores as access roads were cleared, and the ferry service was also closed. Accordingly, the egg could not arrive from the mainland, and the egg from the poultry farm was delivered as the roads were cleared. Now the situation has stabilized, everything is working normally. The poultry farm supplies kindergartens, schools, hospitals and its own branded distribution network, and eggs are also supplied to social stores and large retail chains upon request, the Ministry of Trade reports.

In addition, the ministry reports another problem. In the Sakhalin Region, an egg, especially from a local poultry farm, is a very popular product, its consumption is 20% more than the norm. "Island" does not fully cover the needs of the population. Accordingly, shops and supermarkets make up for the missing need with imported eggs from the mainland. This year, the island poultry farm plans to increase egg production to 128 million pieces, and plans for 2023 are to completely cover the region's needs.

At the same time, the Ostrovnaya poultry farm does not agree with the information of the Ministry of Trade that there is not enough local eggs for the population. The company is convinced that their products and balance should be enough to meet the needs of Sakhalin residents. In addition, the production of the poultry farm does not rely on the import of chickens and eggs from the mainland, the company sells only local products, which means that neither a shortage nor an increase in prices for goods is definitely predicted, assures the deputy DIRECTOR of the Ostrovnoy poultry farm.

They started talking about imports from the mainland in connection with the restrictions introduced from the end of 2021. ROSSELKHOZNADZOR reports that the import of hatching eggs and live birds is prohibited from unfavorable territories where there are outbreaks of bird flu. These are several administrative territories of France, Holland, Germany. The restrictions are generally accepted and aimed at preventing the spread of a dangerous disease. In such cases, suppliers of imported products are redirected to countries free from avian influenza.
