US feedlots report decline in cattle numbers

As of June 1, 2025, the total number of cattle and calves intended for slaughter in feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 or more heads was 11.4 million. This is 1% less than for the same period last year.

The report also highlighted a significant decline in feedlot arrivals in May 2025, totalling 1.89 million head, down 8% from May 2024

The volume of animal sales from feedlots in May amounted to 1.76 million heads, which is 10% less than in May 2024.
