Young scientists from the All-Russian Research Institute of Animal Health received a grant to develop tests for diagnosing infections in small cattle.

This support was made possible by successful participation in a competition for small research groups organized by the Russian Science Foundation. The researchers noted that there are no domestically produced commercially available diagnostic tests on the Russian market , and the use of foreign systems significantly increases the costs of annual monitoring studies . The development of reliable domestic diagnostic tools will help reduce the risk of infection introduction and spread in Russia's regions and improve the level of veterinary research in the country.

Furthermore, the project will strengthen the All-Russian Research Institute of Animal Husbandry's expertise in genetic engineering and support agricultural development by laying the foundation for the implementation of genetic technologies. Peste des petits ruminants (Peste des petits ruminants) is a serious infectious disease affecting sheep and goats, causing significant economic impacts. The disease is notifiable to the World Organization for Animal HEALTH (OIE). Sheep pox is also a transboundary disease that can significantly reduce animal productivity and degrade the quality of their wool, leading to trade restrictions.
