Mikhail Degtyarev spoke about the revival of pig breeding in the Khabarovsk Territory

A large livestock complex will begin work after anti-plague measures.

The project of the SKIFAGRO-DV company to launch a large pig-breeding complex in the suburbs of Khabarovsk will still be implemented. As the Khabarovsk Territory Today news agency recalls, in 2019, the already launched enterprise had to completely destroy the entire livestock of 1,700 pigs due to an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.

The pig complex, in the construction and equipment of which more than 2.6 billion rubles of investments were invested, had to be mothballed. And, as it turned out, for a long time. FMD has been replaced by an infection even more dangerous for pig breeding - African swine fever. She thoroughly undermined the population of wild boars in the taiga. Outbreaks of ASF were recorded first in one, then in another settlement. Because of this, the number of animals susceptible to the disease had to be completely destroyed in quarantine zones.

- For a large pig-breeding complex in the Khabarovsk Territory, ASF (African swine fever) is preventing its resumption. During the year, all anti-plague measures will be implemented: the creation of an exclusion zone, prevention. We will humanely deal with wild boars around the enterprise. After all this, work will begin. Measures of state support and bank financing are envisaged, - said the Governor of the Territory Mikhail Degtyarev following the results of his trip to agricultural enterprises of the Khabarovsk region that took place the day before.

The company "SKIFAGRO-DV" made attempts to purchase a livestock of pigs in the European part of Russia last year. However, according to the regional Ministry of Agriculture, the federal Rosselkhoznadzor did not give permission to send a batch of animals to a region unfavorable in terms of ASF.

Recently, the situation with this extremely dangerous for pigs incurable infection in the Khabarovsk Territory is gradually stabilizing. At the end of last year, hunters recorded that the herds of wild boars that migrated during the epidemic began to return to the forests of the region.

- As of March 25 this year, there are no active foci of African swine fever in the territory of the region. In the city of Khabarovsk, restrictive measures (quarantine) for ASF are still in place, the regional veterinary department reported.
