World pig production: sow numbers in 2024 - leading producers

China's sow population is expected to decline 2.3% in 2024 from 2023 to 42 million HEAD.

In the European Union, the sow population is forecast to decline by 1.4%, from 10.4 million to 10.25 million.

Sow numbers in the US and CANADA are estimated to reach 6.09 million and 1.21 million, down 0.2% and 1.6%, respectively.

Brazil* and Mexico, the leading producers in Latin America, are expected to grow by 3.2% and 0.4%, with sow numbers of 3.2 million and 1.31 million respectively.

In other countries, such as RUSSIA, South Korea andJapan, a slight increase in the number of sows is expected, no more than 0.5%.
