Global pig production costs in 2022

Global pork production costs rose significantly in 2022, largely due to corn and soybean meal prices driven by both climate and geopolitical events. Among the 17 countries represented, Brazil continued to have the lowest cost of production in dollars per kilogram of pig live weight. In 2022, the cost of production in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso was US $1.13 per kg of live MEAT, and in Santa Catarina it was US$1.28. Costs in Brazil are lower than in the United States ($1.42/kg live meat), Denmark ($1.49), Spain ($1.66), the Netherlands ($1.74) and Germany (1 .83 US dollars).

The cost of production increased significantly in all countries represented, and although hog prices also increased, in most countries the price was still below the cost, resulting in losses for the industry, with the exception of the United States.
