Miratorg presented a five-year plan for its genetic program

The agro-industrial holding Miratorg has been engaged in genomic selection at its own enterprise since 2019, the company said in a statement. The company's goal is import substitution of foreign developments in the industry. At the moment, the laboratory of the Miratorg Center for Genomic Selection is capable of conducting up to 400 thousand DNA studies of farm animals per year and is among the top 10 global veterinary genetic laboratories in terms of productivity.

The scientific achievements of the Center for Genomic Selection are already being scaled up across the entire agro-industrial complex of the Russian Federation and are used both in large companies and in private farms for the development and improvement of livestock. Since 2023, the Center, by agreement between Miratorg and the regional Government, has been implementing a five-year program to assess the breeding value of dairy cattle in the Moscow region . As part of the program, it is planned to genotype 10 thousand animals per year, which will provide an opportunity to adequately compete with foreign producers of breeding products. Miratorg, together with its partners, also actively participates in other regional programs for genomic selection of dairy cattle .

As the company noted, timely assessment of animal qualities and competent selection using modern techniques can increase the efficiency of livestock breeders and improve the consumer quality of products - for example, the marbling of beef. This makes products more competitive both in Russian and foreign markets.
