The Russian Ministry of Agriculture has approved a new list of biological waste, which will come into force on March 1, 2025

In addition, the list includes veterinary confiscations, waste generated during the processing of both food and non-food raw materials of animal origin, as well as waste generated at slaughter sites and during the processing of hunting resources. This decision became necessary in accordance with the new law of December 12, 2023, which regulates the handling of biological waste, introduces uniform rules for the operation of cattle burial grounds and prohibits the construction of new ones.

Biological waste will now be divided into two categories: moderately hazardous and highly hazardous, with the latter type not being allowed to be destroyed in animal burial grounds. New veterinary rules have also been approved for the collection, storage, transportation, disposal and destruction of biological waste, which will replace the old rules of 2020. Moderately hazardous waste may be disposed of using feed, feed additives and biogas production technologies. Highly hazardous waste must be disposed of under the supervision of state veterinary service specialists. The law strictly limits the disposal of such waste, its removal to landfills and discharge into water bodies.
