Thus, in the first half of the year, compared to the same period last year, the production of poultry for slaughter (in live weight) in farms of all categories in the Russian Federation increased by 1.5%, to 3.44 million tons.

“The increase is due to the development of investment projects in this area and work to prevent and prevent the spread of especially dangerous bird diseases,” the report says.

Meanwhile, according to the Unified Interdepartmental Information and Statistical System (EMISS), the average price for chilled and  frozen chicken MEAT in June amounted to 193.48 rubles per kilogram, adding 6.8% just during this month, and in annual terms increasing less - by 3.68%. Prior to that, in the period from January 2021, the highest price for these products was in April 2022 (190.85 rubles per kilogram), and then began to decline.

“Retail prices for chilled and frozen chickens, as of July 17, 2023, were at 195.9 rubles per kilogram. Over the month, prices increased by 2.9%, ” Dmitry Leonov, deputy chairman of the board of the Association of Producers and Suppliers of Food Products (“Rusprodsoyuz”), commented to RIA Novosti in turn .

He drew attention to the fact that in the second half of 2022, as well as in the first quarter of 2023, prices for  poultry meat in general tended to decrease, but in April-May of this year, it slightly increased in price.

“Exchange rate turbulence, together with the growth of freight rates, difficulties in the commodity markets and other factors today affect different categories of goods, which may affect the cost price dynamics. Further price dynamics, as always, will depend on the above factors, as well as on the balance of supply and demand in the market,” Leonov said.
