The Ministry of Agriculture has determined the criteria for the import of imported breeding stock into Russia

Let us remind you that RUSSIA is tightening its requirements for the import of breeding material. At the end of December last year, the president signed the corresponding law , which will come into force on September 1, 2024 .

Importing breeding material will now require a special conclusion. This conclusion will confirm that the animals, semen and embryos are considered breeding products. Such a conclusion will be issued by the Ministry of Agriculture .

The ministry has developed criteria by which animals, semen and embryos will be classified as breeding products. These criteria include the presence of a breeding certificate, as well as a document confirming a molecular genetic examination.

The project lists a list of genetic diseases for which certain breeds of animals must be tested. For example, Galloway cows should be examined for tibia hemimelia.

In addition, importers of breeding material will be required to provide:

— positive genomic forecast of breeding value for MILK yield, fat and protein (confirmation of at least 70%) or a positive assessment of the quality of the offspring;

— positive indicators for fertilizing ability, as well as signs of HEALTH and conformation.
