Mexico: Pig population up 1.6% in 2022

SIAP estimates the pig population for 2022 to be 19,225,998, up 1.6% from 2021. In 2022, the states of Jalisco, Sonora, Puebla and Veracruz accounted for more than 50% of Mexico's pig population.

Cumulative pork production in the first half of the year increased by 2.1% compared to the same period in 2022, from 834,523 to 852,057 tons.

The growth rate of pork production in the first half of the year (2.1%) was higher than that of poultry (1.7%) and beef (1.6%).

In June, production reached 145,969 metric tons, up 3.1% from the same month the previous year and 0.5% from May.
