Macron warns of imminent famine

French leader Emmanuel Macron says the EU and the African Union should come up with a food security initiative to prepare for the crisis.

French President Emmanuel Macron called for precautionary measures at the international level in the event of a famine resulting from the Ukrainian crisis.

At the meeting of G7 heads of state and government, Macron advocated an appropriate contingency plan at EU and G7 levels. He urged RUSSIA to allow sowing in Ukraine, otherwise there will inevitably be famine - in 12-18 months, especially in North Africa.

According to the French leader, the European Union and the African Union (AU) should come up with a food security initiative to prepare for the crisis. As far as possible, food shortages should be avoided and prices should be kept under control. This, among other things, should be facilitated by the obligation not to impose EXPORT restrictions on agricultural products. Macron also wants to oblige producing countries to work together to increase production and ensure a fair distribution of food.

The G7 leaders said they will consistently use all financial instruments and mechanisms to ensure food security and increase the resilience of the agricultural sector in line with climate and environmental goals. Possible interruptions in agricultural production and trade will be eliminated. One of the principles will help "avoid export bans and other measures that restrict trade, maintain open and transparent markets," the final statement said.
