
The Laos Departments of Agriculture and Forestry have been ordered to launch a publicity campaign to inform farmers and producers of the official opening of the Chinese market for Laotian livestock.
Laos, the smallest livestock supplier to CHINA (1%), has a chance to increase its share in the Chinese market. A quota of 500,000 HEAD of cattle has been set for Lao farmers who meet the requirements set by Chinese officials. For now, the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has ordered its respective departments to do more to develop livestock, encouraging private operators to raise more cattle for EXPORT to China. China has requested cattle aged four years or less and weighing at least 350 kg, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Departments of agriculture and forestry in all provinces have been tasked with training farmers, entrepreneurs and anyone interested in raising cattle for export to China.
The Department of Livestock and Fisheries was advised to establish a network of rural veterinarians throughout the country and train farmers and producers on how to vaccinate their livestock and comply with all established standards. The department will inspect and certify the quality of cattle in accordance with an agreement signed with Chinese partners.
