It is recommended to increase the quarantine for laying hens after treatment to three weeks.

The All-Russian State Center for Quality and Standardization of Medicines for Animals and Feed (FSBI "VGNKI" ROSSELKHOZNADZOR ) recommended increasing the quarantine period for laying hens. In a message reviewed by sfera.fm, experts indicate that the safety of eggs will be ensured by a quarantine period of three weeks.

As experts explained, at the moment the quarantine period for most drugs used to treat chickens, including laying hens, is two weeks. During this same period, it is prohibited to collect eggs from chickens . However, an egg is a closed system that does not have its own organs for excreting the drug, as happens in chickens. Accordingly, a dangerous dose of the drug may accumulate in the egg , which in the future leads to antibiotic resistance in humans.

Most often, traces of coccidiostats are found in eggs; As a rule, they are used to treat broilers, according to VGNKI data from the Veterinary and Life publication. The frequency of their detection varies between 5–40%. This year, three batches of eggs sent for research to VGNKI turned out to contain residues of veterinary drugs.
