Irkutsk Region Strengthens Biosecurity Measures for Livestock and Poultry Farms

The event was attended by representatives of the veterinary service, the Ministry of Agriculture, ROSSELKHOZNADZOR , Rospotrebnadzor, the Ministry of Emergency Situations , the service for the protection and use of wildlife, as well as livestock and poultry farms of the Irkutsk region.

"The federal center is guiding us to step up work in all areas of ensuring biological security in connection with the worsening situation with highly pathogenic bird flu and African swine fever in other regions. In this regard, it is necessary to increase the effectiveness of the measures taken," emphasized Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Irkutsk Region Vladimir Chitorkin, opening the meeting.

Wild birds are often the source of highly pathogenic avian influenza, and wild boars are the source of African swine fever. 

In this regard, the meeting participants were instructed to continue joint work on monitoring HSV and ASF . If dead animals and synanthropic birds are found, it is necessary to organize the delivery of samples to laboratories. Citizens who notice dead animals or birds should call the hotline of the Irkutsk Region Veterinary Service.

Following the meeting, the regional Ministry of Agriculture, together with the veterinary service, will organize a meeting with representatives of poultry farms to discuss the implementation of roadmaps aimed at improving the level of biosecurity.

In the coming days, the veterinary service will hold a meeting with the participation of Rosselkhoznadzor, the Ministry of Digital Development and the regional prosecutor's office. 

The meeting is planned to discuss a number of current issues, including illegal trade in livestock products via the Internet, unauthorized movement of animals, and the refusal of some business entities to vaccinate their livestock.
