Agriculture Minister Saeb Al-Harith explained that the import suspension is aimed at protecting local production and supporting farmers amid price instability. He noted that unregulated poultry production in Jordan has led to price fluctuations, negatively impacting farmers' incomes . The ministry also emphasized the need to control imports in accordance with local standards to protect producers' interests.
Other challenges facing poultry farmers were also discussed, including climate change and insufficient rainfall, which increase dependence on imported feed and lead to higher costs. Farmers expressed the need for comprehensive support, such as increased feed allocations and loan payment deferrals.
MP Al-Shdeifat called for close cooperation between all stakeholders to create an effective strategy to support local producers and address current challenges, as well as to ensure the sustainable development of the sector in the future.
