Pork exports from Russia this year may grow to 200-220 thousand tons

The Russian Federation may increase pork exports to 200-220 thousand tons this year against 173 thousand tons in 2022. This forecast was made by the DIRECTOR General of the National Union of Pig Breeders Yuri Kovalev at the conference "Livestock & Feed Production" in Moscow.

According to the slides presented at the conference, in the first half of the year, pork exports will amount to 116.6 thousand tons against 83.3 thousand tons a year earlier (an increase of 40%). In particular, deliveries to Belarus will increase to 41.2 thousand tons from 34.2 thousand tons a year ago, to Vietnam - up to 46 thousand tons from 23.7 thousand tons, respectively. Pork is also supplied to Hong Kong, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and a number of other countries.

According to the forecast of the union, by the end of the year, exports to the EAEU countries may amount to about 50% of its volume.

Growth in deliveries abroad this year, Kovalev connects with an increase in pork production. According to the union's estimates, in the first half of the year this figure will grow by 4.2%, to 2.871 million tons (in live weight, in farms of all categories). Moreover, in agricultural organizations, the increase may be 5.4%, up to 2.697 million tons, in personal subsidiary plots and among farmers, a fall of 12% and 9%, respectively, is predicted.

As Kovalev emphasized, for Russian pig farmers, who are in the top five in pork production, the main task is to enter the top 5 world exporters of this MEAT. "This task is like a business plan for the development of the industry. Now we are in eighth position. But we need to open the markets of CHINA and the Philippines. Other countries - the Republic of Korea and Japan, in particular, we do not consider for our products for various reasons. But if we manage to occupy even 5-10% of the market in China and the Philippines, then we will achieve our goals," he said.

In 2022, pork production in RUSSIA amounted to 5.765 million tons, which is 5% more than in 2021. The main volume fell on agricultural organizations - 5.237 million tons (6.9% more).
