Director General of the National Union of Pig Breeders Yuri Kovalev recalled that the entire livestock industry was faced with a rapid rise in the cost of feed.

Additional government support for livestock breeders will create conditions for price stabilization in Russia. Meat market experts voiced this point of view to journalists.

Earlier, during a meeting between Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and members of the government, Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev said that in 2021 meat producers were provided with incentives for the purchase of feed, the amount of which was 10 billion rubles.

"In the face of rising costs of livestock and poultry production, additional support for the industry's enterprises for the purchase of feed is very timely. It will help accelerate the rate of production growth and stabilize meat prices. This is especially important for maintaining the sustainability of production at small and medium-sized enterprises in the industry," the head of the National Meat Association Sergey Yushin.

He recalled that Russiafully self-sufficient in pork and poultry meat, the share of imports in beef consumption is decreasing. “But we need to further reduce the dependence of prices on the domestic market on the global situation, use the natural, climatic and investment potential in order, giving priority to the domestic market, to promote the diversification of Russian exports by supplying livestock products with high added value to the world market,” he said. .

Director General of the National Union of Pig Breeders Yuri Kovalev recalled that at the end of 2020, the cost of grain jumped by 40-50% compared to the same period in 2019. As a result, the entire livestock industry is faced with a rapid rise in the cost of feed. In addition, the cost of producing live pigs still increased by 25-30%. According to Kovalev, the allocation of additional funds to livestock breeders will help reduce pressure on the cost of meat products due to increased production costs, which means that conditions will arise for the stabilization of wholesale and consumer prices.

Position of poultry farmers

Director General of the National Union of Poultry Breeders Sergey Lakhtyukhov noted that now the domestic poultry industry faces a very important task: to build its own breeding base and ensure independence from the supply of imported hatching eggs. To do this, many poultry farms need to build their own loudspeakers, which will require quite large financial costs.

“Therefore, additional support from the state is very important. It will speed up the process of modernization of our enterprises. At the same time, much has already been done. For example, poultry farmers are provided with subsidies for the construction and modernization of loudspeakers of the first and second orders,” he said.

Lakhtyukhov recalled that the cost of manufactured products largely depends on feed prices. "Therefore, compensation for the cost of purchasing feed will allow you to adjust the final cost of poultry products, and subsidizing the transportation of grain to the center of Russia will help reduce the cost of feed," he concluded.
