Economist Dorokhov ruled out a possible shortage and a global increase in MEAT prices in RUSSIA

The global crisis and accelerated inflation may lead to an increase in the cost of meat products in Russia by 20%. What will help manufacturers and large retailers to keep prices in the domestic market - in the material of the FBA "Economy Today".

Numerous sanctions imposed by the West do not directly affect the cost of meat for the Russian market, since the Russian Federation does not depend on imports of meat products. Despite this, the general trend of rising food prices is observed throughout the world, which cannot but affect domestic products.

“Of course, the global crisis, which began during the CORONAVIRUS pandemic and was reinforced by Western economic sanctions, affects pricing. Products are becoming more expensive in all European countries, in Asia and the usa , Russia is no exception. Another question is that those items that are produced directly in the Russian Federation by our manufacturers will in any case be cheaper than imported goods,” says Vladimir Dorokhov, Candidate of Economic Sciences.

The sanctions pressure is also creating logistical difficulties, increasing the cost of shipping by sea, as several leading container suppliers have suspended cooperation with Russia.

“I don’t think that the cost of meat will increase much, after all, a lot of meat and poultry products are produced in the Russian Federation. Perhaps, we should slightly reduce the EXPORT of positions abroad, then there will definitely not be a shortage, and prices will be able to be kept in the normal range. In addition, the domestic Russian market is expanding, and this requires a great competitive advantage,” adds Dorokhov.

The expert concluded that the prices we see in stores are influenced by too many factors: from the cost of animal feed, logistics and production costs, to markups set by retailers. The well-coordinated work of manufacturers and key market players will help stabilize the pricing policy in the Russian Federation.
