Guatemala aims to declare itself free of classical swine fever

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) is stepping up its efforts to have Guatemala officially recognized as a country free of classical swine fever (CSF) by the World Organisation for Animal HEALTH (WOAH).

To achieve this certification, key strategies were implemented, including serologicalfarm sampling , epidemiological surveillance and enhanced biosecurity measures. At airports, control was strengthened using pairs of dogs to prevent the introduction of pathogens.

Another fundamental pillar of the process is pig sector traceability, which includes registration and monitoring of pig production, transport and marketing units, ensuring compliance with biosecurity protocols.
