He said that Intergen Rus is engaged in genotyping, that is, compiling a genetic passport of animals, in particular cattle . “We take tests from the cow and see what genetic potential it has,” he explained.

Genotyping will be of interest to farmers; with its help, they will better understand which animal is better to keep for themselves and which is better to sell. According to Vladimir Andreev, genotyping of 85 thousand animals has now been carried out in RUSSIA. When 150 thousand animals are typed, it will be possible to talk about creating a Russian index, the expert noted. He added that Udmurtia and the Kuban Agrarian Institute were involved in this work.

Genotyping will be interesting both from the point of view of checking the work of inseminators and for selecting the best bulls, added Vladimir Andreev. To develop this area, the Zalesye Group of Companies launched a new project several years ago. “Currently six projects in Russia trust us with selection and insemination. It is common around the world for a genetics company to handle the insemination, leaving the farmer to pay for the pregnancy rather than the seed. But this is a unique project for Russia,” commented Vladimir Andreev.
