Germany hit by African swine fever

For the first time, an outbreak of African swine fever was registered in Germany on September 9, 2020. The first outbreak in the domestic pig population was registered on July 12, 2021. A total of 8 outbreaks of the disease have been identified among domestic pigs, commented in Kaliningrad today, July 21, 2023, to the correspondent of Radio Voice of Baltic in the ROSSELKHOZNADZOR department for the Kaliningrad region.

During the period from May 24 to July 11, 2023, 11 outbreaks of African swine fever among wild boars were recorded in Germany. A total of 95 wild boars fell ill, 79 died, and 16 were killed and destroyed.

The source of infection is unknown and is being studied.
