France is battling the rapid spread of lumpy skin disease (LSD) among cows. Since the first case was detected in late June, 51 outbreaks have been reported, and nearly 1,000 animals have been culled. A vaccination campaign , launched on July 19, has so far covered approximately 100,000 HEAD of cattle in four Alpine departments, including Savoie and Haute-Savoie, where outbreaks were detected, according to a statement from the country's Ministry of Agriculture. The outbreaks have raised concerns about the economic impact in regions known for producing cheeses such as Reblochon, Beaufort, and Tomme de Savoie. Furthermore, last week, a stage of the Tour de France was shortened after an outbreak along the planned route led to the culling of livestock and restricted access.
