This upward trend continued in February. In the United Kingdom, the average price of all grades of cattle on a carcass weight basis rose by 2p to 634.6p per kilogram in the week ending 22 February 2025. This price was 139.5p higher than the same week last year and 216.9p above the five-year average. The price increase is due to a combination of factors, including smaller EU herd sizes , reduced calf production and strong demand in both domestic and international markets. The European Commission forecasts that, despite a slight decline in beef prices in the coming years, prices will settle at higher levels than in the past and could reach around €6,000 per tonne by 2035. Overall, the EU beef market in February 2025 was characterised by high prices due to limited supplies and strong demand, and this trend is expected to continue in the near future.
