EU excludes lab-grown meat from climate plans at request of agriculture commissioner

On Tuesday, the EU published proposed plans to meet a strict new climate target for 2040. This announcement was marked by a number of concessions to agriculture. None of this was enough for Wojciechowski, who wanted the agricultural sector to be completely exempt from the climate plan.

Daniel Mees, a member of climate commissioner Wopka Hoekstra's cabinet, wrote to Wojciechowski's adviser Joanna Stawova to say that "we have now removed all references to 'protein' (i.e. 'lab-cooked meat'"). ") from the text upon request".

In particular, lab-grown MEAT and insect food products have also come under scrutiny by several EU governments. Last year, Italy passed a law banning lab-grown meat, which the government says threatens the country's cultural heritage.
