The only large poultry farm in western Kazakhstan is on the verge of closing

"The Aktau Agro poultry farm covered almost half of the region's need for chicken MEAT. I would like to note that several years ago it was pompously announced that the project was being implemented through financing from the Agrarian Credit Corporation and investor funds. The investment project was to become the largest and most unique meat production facility in the Mangistau region, with a capacity of about 5,000 tons of chicken per year, which was to help reduce the region's import dependence by two times," said Majilis deputy Aidarbek Khodzhanazarov, who visited the region yesterday.

He said that at the moment the enterprise is on the verge of closing.

"The HEAD of the enterprise is currently experiencing serious problems in selling products and obtaining working capital to support production. I have taken this problem under my personal control," Khodjanazarov said.

According to the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan, Aktau-Agro is the only large poultry farm in the Mangistau region that produces broiler chickens. The plant was launched in the spring of 2021. Then it was planned that the poultry farm would meet half of the population's need for poultry products. The population of the region consumes an average of 11.5 thousand tons of chicken per year; the region has always depended on imports. The capacity of the new poultry farm is about 5 thousand tons of meat per year. The Aktau-Agro poultry complex consists of three large blocks: an incubator , 16 poultry houses for 30 thousand heads, a research laboratory and a veterinary post. In 2021, the company received the QMDB HALAL certificate.

As previously reported by  the DIRECTOR of the Union of Poultry Farmers of Kazakhstan, Ruslan Sharipov, cheap imported products are displacing domestic products from the market. He noted that low-quality products are imported to our market without the necessary documents and are sold at a low price, which greatly attracts the population. If this continues, Kazakhstan risks losing the industry altogether. Poultry farmers have appealed to the government to close the import of Russian poultry products by road. So far, there has been no reaction from the authorities to this statement.
