Changes were made to the EEC decision dated November 24, 2020 No. 149 “On approval of methods for assessing the breeding value of farm animals in the Member States of the Eurasian Economic Union”. The document presents assessment methods taking into account species and breed diversity of animals, natural and climatic conditions of their breeding.
Also in the methodology, estimates of the breeding value of dairy cattle of productivity are determined, additional breeding traits (exterior, reproduction and HEALTH of the animal). Previously, these recommendations were reported by the International Committee on Animal Records.
“The addition of the methodology will make it possible to comprehensively and fully assess the breeding value of animals according to the traits that have the greatest impact on the economic efficiency of dairy production,” the report says. The document also presents the procedure for measuring these indicators, as well as the principle of calculating breeding value indices.
The extension of the transition period will allow the EAEU countries to timely introduce the improved methods into production processes.
