Pig DNA in beef sausage was detected in the laboratory of the North Caucasus branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Grain Quality Assessment Center"

The manufacturer indicated on the label that the product contains beef and poultry. However, the inspection found that the composition also contained pig DNA, which should not be an ingredient. The reason for the violation may be the use of one production line for the manufacture of products with different compositions - from beef and pork. Such cases occur if the manufacturer does not comply with the principle of multidirectional flows of raw materials. Also, the fault may be poor hygienic processing of equipment or the deliberate use of ingredients containing pork.

The research results were sent to the North Caucasus Interregional Administration of Rosselkhoznadzor for further action.

Since the beginning of this year, the Department of Virology and Molecular Diagnostics of the North Caucasus Branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Grain Quality Assessment Center" has received 6 samples of sausage products for study. As a result of the studies, 5 of them were found to contain foreign DNA not declared by the manufacturer.
