Deputy Governor of the Vologda Region Mikhail Glazkov, in an interview for the Veterinary and Life publication, shared ideas for improving the biosafety of poultry farms. According to the official, one of the best solutions is to maximally expand the zone between poultry farms and private farms that keep poultry. This will avoid the spread of avian influenza from poultry to commercial livestock and will protect private farms from the destruction of poultry as a result of quarantine measures.

The official also noted that it is necessary to respond quickly and flexibly to the first signs of the disease, and expressed support for vaccinating the bird population at poultry farms, which will also prevent the spread of the virus.

Let us recall that in July 2023, the Malechkinsky poultry farm suffered from highly pathogenic avian influenza in the Vologda region . The entire poultry population at the poultry farm was destroyed, amounting to 493 thousand birds; in addition, veterinary services had to seize poultry from private farms within a radius of 10 km from the source of infection. The regional government has allocated 62 million rubles to compensate for damage to farmers who lost their birds, the vice-governor explained.
