Buffer zones around pig farms in Mordovia imply 100% removal of wild boars

Employees of the Department of State Veterinary Supervision in the Republic of Mordovia monitor the density of wild boar in the region for the prevention of ASF

There are 47 hunting farms on the territory of the Republic of Mordovia. According to the data of the winter route accounting in 2022, in which employees of the Department of State Veterinary Supervision in the Republic of Mordovia of the Office of the ROSSELKHOZNADZOR for the Republic of Mordovia and the Penza Region, together with employees of the Ministry of Forestry, Hunting and Nature Management of the Republic of Mordovia, took an active part, on an area of ​​land of 2350628 ha, the wild boar density is 0.17 individuals per 1000 hectares of land.

This indicator corresponds to the recommended indicator of 0.25 individuals per 1000 hectares of hunting grounds in accordance with the recommendations for reducing the number of wild boar No. 0005/12, approved on February 27, 2020 by the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation D.N. Kobylkin.

As part of the implementation of the above recommendations to reduce the number of wild boar, the Ministry of Forestry, Hunting and Nature Management of the Republic of Mordovia issued Order No. 369 dated June 2, 2022 “On the creation of buffer zones around pig breeding complexes with a high level of biological protection”, in the consideration and approval of which employees of the territorial department of Rosselkhoznadzor.

As part of the Order, a list of buffer zones around pig breeding complexes located on the territory of the Republic of Mordovia and having a high level of biological protection, a regime of buffer zones, and a map of buffer zones was approved. In buffer zones up to 30 km wide, wild boars are to be taken up to 100% of the population.

In pursuance of the Plan for joint field surveys on the lands of specially protected natural areas of federal significance located within the borders of the Republic of Mordovia for 2022, agreed by the Office of the Rosselkhoznadzor for the Republic of Mordovia and the Penza Region, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Mordovia and the Interregional Department of Rosprirodnadzor for the Nizhny Novgorod Region and In the Republic of Mordovia, this year, specialists of the Department of State Veterinary Supervision for the Republic of Mordovia, together with employees of the Interregional Department of Rosprirodnadzor for the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Mordovia, carried out 3 raids on the territory of the Temnikovsky and Ichalkovsky municipal districts of the Republic of Moldova.

The purpose of the raid activities is to monitor the implementation of the recommended limit of wild boar population density, which does not exceed 0.25 individuals per 1000 hectares, to prevent, search and detect dead wild animals (including birds) for laboratory testing for the presence of contagious animal diseases.

Raid events were carried out along the routes:

- Pushta village of Temnikovsky district, Pushtinskoye forestry;

- branch "National Park "Smolny" of Ichalkovsky district, Kemlyanskoye district forestry.

In the course of the conducted raid activities, no violations of compliance with the requirements of the regime of specially protected natural areas (SPNA) were identified. Dead individuals of wild boars and birds were not found during the survey of the territories, violations of environmental legislation were not revealed.

In 2022, as part of the regional monitoring of the ASF epizootic situation among wild boars, 132 samples were taken (including 2 from the death of wild boars and 130 from the shooting of wild boars). In all cases, a negative result for the presence of the ASF virus was obtained.
