Dr. Phil Hadley, Director of International Trade Development, will travel to the US this weekend to speak at the Meat Import Council of America (MICA) conference in Phoenix, Arizona, and showcase British beef , lamb, and pork to an audience of key industry buyers.
The conference, which runs from 6th to 8th November, will provide Dr. Hadley with the ideal platform to highlight the quality and traceability of British red meat to help develop further export opportunities for UK businesses.
The US is a net importer of lamb and a major consumer of beef. While domestic beef production is expected to increase, there are opportunities to import products other than those produced in the US, as well as beef production.
While the US is a major pork exporter, its import volume is significant and expected to grow, opening up opportunities for premium pork from the UK .
Dr Hadley said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to speak at the MICA conference and demonstrate our sustainable and high production standards across our supply chain to our US buyers in a growing market.
Events like these are crucial to helping us develop relationships with importers in key markets to help our levypayers capitalise on opportunities in global markets.”
His participation at the conference, where he will join a group of international industry representatives, follows the launch of our new export strategy, Beyond Borders, earlier this year, which aims to support our ambitions to increase market access and export sales. In 2022, the total value of UK red meat exports to the US was £36.2 million.
He added: “One of AHDB’s key strategic objectives is to develop exports, working in partnership with industry and government to create further opportunities for our red meat and dairy sectors. This conference is another illustration of how AHDB is promoting high-quality levypayers’ produce into new markets.”
