Brazil sets new pork export record

Brazilian pork exports ended in 2021 at 1.13 million tons. This is the highest result ever achieved by Brazilian exporters in a single year and is 11% higher than 2020 exports (the old record) of 1.02 million tonnes.

In value terms, sales in 2021 reached $2.641 billion, up 16.4% from 2020 ($2.270 billion).

“Exports have been an important tool during 2021 to minimize the impact of historically high production costs. Asia remains the main region for our pork purchases and is expected to remain our main partner in 2022. RUSSIA should also become an important partner for Brazil again in the coming year,” said Ricardo Santin, President of ABPA.

CHINA was the main consumer of Brazilian pork (533,700 tons, up 3.9% from 2020). it is followed by Chile with 61,000 tons (+39.2%), Vietnam with 44,900 tons (+11.4%), Argentina with 37,800 tons (+97.5%) and the Philippines with 33,400 tons (+321 ,five%).

“The privileged sanitary status and trust of the nearly 100 countries to which we exported pork in 2021 suggests good expectations for the sector’s exports in 2022, even more so in a scenario in which several countries competing with Brazil on the international stage face problems due to African swine fever and other production factors,” added Mr. Santin.
