Argentina certifies beef to EU eco-friendly standards


Argentina intends to supply the EU with about 50,000 tons of beef per year. This is 7% of the South American country's beef exports. The largest buyer of Argentine beef, with a share of 80% . Despite this, the Argentine government follows the food supply rules introduced by the EU.

In Brussels, at the residence of the Argentine Ambassador to the EU, the Argentine Institute for the Promotion of Beef (IPCVA) presented a new certification scheme that meets the requirements of the Union.

The EU-developed VISEC (Sectoral Vision Gran Chaco) platform ensures the traceability and certification of deforestation-free products. VISEC monitors the cattle supply chain and authorizes shipments to EU markets. The platform ensures compliance with EU Regulation 2023/1115 (EUDR), approved in mid-2023 and due to enter into force on 30 December 2024 .

IPCVA spokesman Adrian Bifaretti said: "Since 2023, the Argentine livestock and MEAT chain has been working to comply with EU Regulation 2023/1115. We have met with EU representatives in Argentina and Mercosur. We have worked together with VISEC, ranchers, shippers, transporters and meat processors."
