
South Africa has opened its market to imports of hydrolyzed bovine collagen powder for human consumption, which is used as an ingredient in confectionery and cosmetics. The news was announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, which confirmed the successful completion of negotiations on sanitary standards.
The South African Department of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development (DALRRD) has informed the National Service for Agricultural Quality and Safety (SENASA) of its acceptance of the requirements contained in the health certificate proposed by the Argentine agency. This measure has now entered into force.
Result of technical negotiations:
This achievement was the result of three months of technical and diplomatic negotiations conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, SENASA (National Service for Quality and Safety of Agricultural Products), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During this period, the parties exchanged technical information and reached an agreement on the requirements for the supplied products.
South Africa, a country that imports approximately 5,000 tons of the product annually, has joined 22 other markets in opening its doors to exports of hydrolyzed bovine collagen powder from Argentina. In 2025, the national health authority certified the export of 5,382 tons to key countries such as Germany , the United States , Wales, Turkey , and Australia .
